hey guys once again *** got the bug to expand my fishtank collection
im building a 2 tier stand and i'm limited to 3ft in tank length...
before i go building and buying tanks or having them specially made i was just wanting to know what width and height to get???

the tanks are for my j.marlieri+multies, and black occies in the other.
i just wanna give the fish decent space to be happy and breed etc without being cramped risking fatalities...

my options are:
36x13x15
36x18x16
36x15x18
36x18x18
(LxWxH)

what do you guys reckon my best option is?
(i have a 1 cheap 3x15x18 lined up, hope its big enough)

cheers :thumb:

I would go with the 38x18x16. The LxW is important, the height isn't really so much, as long as it is 12" or more. An 18" tall tank is wasted space in my opinion. Any of the sizes are big enough, for species only tanks. I wouldn't bet on J. marlieri and multifasciatus working out together though.

cool thanks again fogulhund :thumb:

will a j.marlieri pair work with a trio of black occies (L.speciosus) in a 3x18x16?
both species are still a bit too young to spawn, so initially i think it will be fine... dunno about long term tho

J. marlieri and any shelly that you plan on breeding won't be a good combo. Not only will the julies eat fry, but they are big and mean enough to kill adult shellies guarding fry.

But, the combo should work until the julies realize that there's food in the shells.

Otherwise, those tank dimensions (36L*18W*16H) sound great. That's a nice foot print for housing multiple species, but may be a bit overkill for shelly breeding tanks. They'll appreciate the room though.

ok kool thats awesome, thanks for the advice triscuit.
what would go good with the julies then? calvus or what about caudopuncts?
(leleupis would look nice but they might be too crazy, just a thought.)

i think i'll get that good bargain tank 36x15x18 for some of my shellies (black occies or multies)
and put the julies in the 36x18x16 tank with something you guys recommend :fish:
