Quick Heater Question

501 Views 5 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  rpshilling
I was referred to get an inline heater for my 55 gallon tank. So I will be getting the Hydor ETH In Line Heater.

Is it possible to get 2 x 100w heaters and place one on the intake and one on the out take?
This way if one fails it will be less likely to overheat the tank.

Or do I just get the one 200w heater?

Thanks

As far as I know, the Hydor ETH comes in two models only - 200W and 300W. For a 55G, the 200W version would be ideal. These heaters go in the return line from the canister to the tank - presumably to limit their exposure to dirt. These are very reliable heaters. I've had mine for several years now, and so far no problem.
Ok Thank you for the response. Ill get the 200w then.
I would go with the 300w.

I have a 200w on my 55. It doesn’t have any problem keeping the temp where I set it. Unless the room is extremely cold, a 300w would be overkill in my opinion.
When buying the heater I have an option of buying the 1/2 inch or 5/8 inch fitting.

Which one do i choose?

I have the Fluval 304 and I'm not sure if I measure the inside diameter or the outside diameter of the hose.
