Hi Everyone

My stealth heater has kept my tank at 79 degrees everyday since I got it. Should I be worried that the temp is now at 78 and has been like that for a few days. There is no fish in the tank yet but I am wondering if something may be wrong with the heater.

To my standards...

Noticing a 1* F change is absolutely no problem... but I see your point that it may be the beginning of digression. I would use this as alarm enough to monitor the temp closely, but not enough of an alarm to start replacing equipment...

Keep in mind the ambient air temperature of the room the tank is in has a big impression on the aquariums temp. If the air conditioner was turned down a degree or two this could influence the tanks temp slightly. Or if the tank previously got direct sunlight and now does not… I’m just trying to think of other possibilities…

Use a thermometer near the heater itself. A thermometer on the glass will always be a little lower than the temp at the heater itself.

I've tried most of the digital thermometers on the market... I don't trust any of them...

I have a couple that I use to confirm consistency... as I know they always are off by 2.5*F... but I only know this after months of monitoring and comparing to glass thermometers and I still double check them for consistency on a regular basis.
