Has anyone ever heard of using feather rocks with cichlids? Feather rock is a rock used for landscaping. It has bulk but very little weight looks kind of like lava rock. Did not know if the feel of the rock which has a similar feel as lava rock would damage the cichlids.

Thanks and hello....just joined the site.

I try to stay away from anything sharp or abrasive. My oscar likes to jet around the tank and run into things and has dinged him self up a few times. If you have larger cichlids I would say try to get things that are smooth and rounded.

People do use it with success and some do avoid it due to the possibility of scrapes.

I am planning on keeping dwarf South American cichlids. I think I am going to try to use the feather rock since my cichlids will always be pretty small. Thanks for the suggestions. Please any additional comments will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again
