I have what I thought was a reverse trio. When I came home from work today I found what I believed to be a subdominant male holding eggs. Can large females develop yellow coloration? It's not as intense as the male but looks like little males do when they start to change color. I've never seen it before so I figured I'd ask.

We have a female that took on male colors at around 24 months. She is yellow, though not as brite as the males will get, and spawns with this johanni about 4 times a year since we have no male kenyi in with her. We let nature take its course with the fry but the few that survive have a striking blue stripe marking.

Thanks for the replies. She's actually taken on a little more blue since spawning and her stripes have gotten darker.
