Hi,

I have a 90 gal tank with crashed corals and some PH rocks. I bought this used and it came with the corals and rocks. They are still wet from the previous owner who used to also have cichilds.

I'd like to put some water in the bottom (10%) before I start filling in. I'm not planning on putting any fish in there until at least 2 weeks.

My questions are:

1. How do I prepare the water (planning on using water from the tap)?
2. How can I prevent the new water from killing the good bacteria living in the corals and rocks?

Thank you!

Adding a simple dechlorinator will prepare the water and stop it from killing bacteria. However, just letting the tank sit empty for 2 weeks will do no good, because the beneficial bacteria will run out of food. I think this article will be very useful for you at this stage.

Welcome to CF and enjoy your 90G. That's a great size tank to start of with. Lots of stocking options :thumb:
