i purchased 2 maxi jet 1200 powerhead pumps today, and i had a question about the prefilter sponge.

Around here the prefilter sponge kit is not avaliable, but i did run across a spong filter for ponds?(in the picture below) its about 4-5 inches long, you think it would work with the filter adapter that came with the powerhead pump?

I dont see why it wouldn't i would drill some 1\8 inch holes in the adapter for the powerhead, so it doesn't only suck through the end of the sponge, but through the sides as well.
