With actual Honduran Red Pt species, it is often easy to spot gender differences.

Males (above) often develop dorsal trailers that extend beyond the caudal, and their cranial profile can be steeper than females.
Similar age females, are normally smaller, profile less extreme, and dorsal fin less elongate.

They will often sport darker markings.

During pre-spawning, spawning, and fry raising these gender differences become less obvious.

With the mutant strains gender differences skewed, looking at your photos, its hard to tell if its pair mating, or 2 of the same sex vying for territory.
