Hi to all, I just started into the hobby last January 2011 and I started with a couple of yellow labs, peacocks and zebras for my daughter but soon i was the one who gets addicted to it...lol!i keep them in 55 gal tank and to my surprise my female yellow lab mated with my i guess a greishaki or a yellow tail zebra im not so sure and then again after a couple of days noticed that my female johanni also mated with that very prolific zebra. I'm keeping both **** in a 15 gal tank and returned both the mothers to the main tank. I just wanna know if the breed will turn out to be a good hybrid worthkeeping or not. When can i include the **** in the main tank? Thanks guys...

Thanks anyway...Do you think i should keep them or shoud i put them in the main tank already?poor little fellas... :-?
Looks like the OP is planning to keep his fish. If so, go ahead. No harm in raising hybrids for your own enjoyment. We only frown upon it here if you're distributing them - for some reason we're sticklers about pure species. Can't really tell you what your hybrids will be like, but hopefully you get something neat ;)

Thanks for the info's...i dont know yet what will i do next but what do you suggest if i plan to dispose of the hybrids?how do you usually get rid of the hybrids fry in a nice way?thanks
The easiest and most natural way is to let the moms spit the babies in the tank. The other adults will eat the fry.

Once they get a little older this won't happen.
When I have to cull fish I put them in the freezer. This seems as humane as anything to me. I suppose as the water temp drops they should slow down until they are frozen and dead. Something I have thought of but not tried is preparing a container of ice water, netting the undesirable fish and dropping them in. I would expect them to be shocked (unconscious?) and dead in a short time. This also seems humane to me.

I also have some hybrid fry to deal with, although the parents were both yellow labs (or what the LFS sells as yellow labs). The black markings are incomplete and different on each fry, i.e. the parents are not 'breeding true'.

If anybody has some good quality yellow labs in the Houston area I'd be interested...
