Dear Forum Members,
Currently I have a 45G African Cichlid Tank filtered using a Fluval 206 Canister Filter. I also have a small internal pump to improve the internal circulation of water. My current stock involves mostly mbunas, with a few haps and peacocks. The tank has been running very well for over a year: in fact I even created a blog to share my experiences: http://oguzsaquarium.blogspot.com.tr/
I also shared some youtube videos, which I hope you like:
and one more at:
But I now want to switch to a larger aquarium -- an aquarium which I hope to build entirely by myself. I want to achieve an aquarium of dimensions 5'x2'x2' which makes about 140G. Well, by entirely I mean the tank and the stand. And perhaps a sump tank as well. I am not exactly sure if using a sump is a good idea (or necessary) with cichlids but I want to design the tank such that it may be converted to a salt water tank one day.
I have been watching many tutorial videos and checking out out DIY websites. But I hope to get some feedbacks from you experts out there. What are some pitfalls that I should be careful about? Can you share some good tested design plans for both the tank, stand, and the sump?
I will try to upload my progress by replying to this thread.
Thanks!
