she looks like she is about to blow a bubble...

it has been about a month since she's been this swollen, and 2 months since shes actually spawned in the 25g, so I am hoping she will spawn this time so I can witness it even though I wont be able to keep the fry...

Here's a pic from one sunday last month... both times I've noticed the bump has been on sundays...

My fish are absolutely thriving in the 47g... :thumb:

Looks like a yellow lab zebra hybrid!

Yellow labs dont have stripes!

It may be a yellow lab hybrid, but some labs do often have barring but this makes them bad labs, and not necessarily desirable, so offspring should be left to be devoured, culled, and not sold. But congratulations.

I'm not an expert, but from everything i've heard and understand some barring in labs is possible but definitely an undesired trait...

both my labs have bars, the male shows his when he is being dominant or is chased... He also is 'bearded' but the beard shows and disappears similar to the bars...

His face is actually somewhat a bluish white so I sometimes call him captain blackbeard or bluebeard depending on his moods :lol:

Anyways...

I GOT TO WITNESS THEM SPAWN!!!!

It was incredible, and some great timing... I had been at my aquarium with my camera taking video for about 5 minutes because the fish were all amped up and chasing each other (I'm guessing because of the female)... The male lab was chasing everyone away from the female, and trying to circle with her and was showing himself off...

Next thing I knew, they found a cave in the middle of the tank and started to spawn...

I got the whole thing on video, I just wish there could have been more light in the cave...

I dont know what to do now, I've already got a dozen 1" fry from her first spawn almost 2 months ago...

It looks like she laid about 20-30 eggs...

I dont plan on selling any... Will probably give some to my dad and use the rest to stock my tank for free...

I may just get rid of my other species and do a whole lab colony of the best and brightest...

Yes they could also be 'bad' labs.

if you're serious about breeding labs i would start over with bar less labs and that way you'll be able to sell the off spring.

It looks as if the female is definitely a hybrid to me (color, shape) but the male could be pure. Not sure though. Nice video btw

I'm gonna check out the video when I'm done but it sounds great, I just read my old post and it sorta sounded a little mean and that you should just kill them off, I actually have some own barred labs, and to me they might not be that great but I raised them, they are my "kids" and I still think there beautiful, despite there cosmetic problems. But I would never pass on the fish to anyone that would redistribute them to the masses and/or LFS, giving to your dad is most likely not that
