I had my water tested at the LFS when I bought my first fish about a year ago, and african cichlids was recommened because of my "very hard" water. The pH test kit I had is kinda old I guess, it came with the used tank. Every time I ever used it to test my water it was off the chart (it only went to 7.6).

I recently got a new test kit and tested my water (tank water right before a water change and straight out of the tap). It's reading 7.8 for both  .

I have well water and we've had alot of rain this spring. Could all that rain have lowered my pH?
Maybe it has been 7.8 the whole time, I just assumed it was alot higher.

Should I do something to bring it up? I really hate to as I've read it's best not to fool with it if you don't have to.
