The regular range pH test maxes out at 7.6 I believe. If that's the case, your regular range test is merely maxed out and showing the most "accurate" color it can.

What are you doing to get a pH of 8.8 from water with a tap pH of 7.2?

I'd be willing to bet that the 8.8 is correct if you're doing the test correctly. :)

I made a background using gutter and used silicone to ahere rocks to it. I also drilled holes in the gutter creating caves. I have about 2.5 inches of small gravel on the bottom of the tank.

the ph card maxed at 8.8 a magenta color (purplish pink) my ph is dark purple.
