Nimbochromis livingstonii. The get pretty large and aggressive, I wouldn't keep them in anything less than a 6 foot tank.

Its in a 100gal with an Oscar he holds his own.. i was looking more for like the "pet store name" ex- Texas cichlid, Jack Dempsey, jewel, etc..

Livingstonii is the common name. He is a hap from Lake Malawi. Africa, not the new world.

In terms of a name a LFS might use...I've seen Rock Cichlid being used.
They tend to hang around/play dead alongside rocks waiting to pounce on smaller fish.

Must be a UK name, never heard that being used here. Just livingstoni.... though even in lower quality shops, I've only seen this as it's full scientific name here.
