I just finished re-reading "The Red Peacocks from Germany"
by Marc Elieson http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/red_peacocks.php

Since he states Aulonocara "Ruby Red" (Rubin Red), Aulonocara "Rubescens" and Aulonocara "German Red" are really all Aulonocara sp. "Stuartgranti Chipoka" that have been line-bred does this mean it would be ok to interbreed these along with "Stuartgranti Chipoka" and not worry about the fry being hybrids.
Then, if interbred--what do you call the fry?

One reason I ask is because I don't have a good Male to females ratio and sometimes females are hard to get--so can I get any of the German varieties for my ruby red male?

No replies? Is everyone as confused as I am?

i wouldn't mix them either. We must try to keep the species that are already available to us as pure as we can.

in my opinion German reds have blue dots and Ruby reds have blue lines on there bodys.. at least thats the difference i have seen with the lines in my area.... i have meet a breeder that went and got direct decendants of the original german reds from the original breeder in germany(name escapes me too) when the line was new, so im glad im not confused as to which line mine are..
