Was bored and thinking about a set up i am kind of planning with 2 20L that will be side by side for shellies anyways another topic

What if you put a Y in the intake and return and set them up same length and what not and set intakes and returns in the corner where the tanks would meet would it filter both?

Mmm, impossible to control like that. It will foul sometimes leaving one tank without filtration. Also spreading of dissease over two tanks will happen this way. If they are close enough together and you do want one filter, you could connect both tanks with an over flow pipe and just suck water from one tank and put it back in the other. That way you'll have a flow through both tanks for sure. And an overflow pipe is just like an upside down U, filled with water

most likely scenario would be more water would travel through one outlet than the other, overflowing the tank, you wouldn't be able to guarantee even flow back to the tank

As long as the tops of the tanks are the exact same height you can use a "water bridge" like Trigger said to keep the water level the same in both tanks.
