OK my mbuna are still flashing even after i have done 2 50% water changes in the past 3 days, i think its from the nitrates, they won't go down there still above 80 no matter how much i siphon. I have even added Easy Balance with NITRABAN in it to help reduce the nitrates, and to top it all off i have lots of live dwarf sag plants in the tank to, I thought they helped with this. Please help i can't get the nitrates down.

check your water see if theirs any nitrite.i had the same problem, only to find nitrite. just to be safe i added melafix due to all the flashing, its a all natural product that treats bacterial fish infections. will not harm the plants or biological fillter! i would do a 50% water change daily for a week to reduce nitrate creep then at least 40% regular weekly changes, depending on bio load, you could be over stocked bud.

Once nitrates get up high it can take many days of partial water changes to get them down below 20ppm. Try doing daily or every other day partial water changes of 40% and siphon the gravel, too. Feed the fish sparingly, one small feeding a day, for the next several weeks.
