Can a young nicaraguensis pair live in a 55? The male is approximately 7 inches, female is 4-5.
I assume they would destroy any other fish in there, will they?
I know it's a small tank but I have to rehome them and don't have a bigger tank.
Yes, I believe a compatible pair of Nicaraguans could be kept in a 55 gallon aquarium. And no.... I seriously doubt anything else could be kept with them in a tank that size, and be expected to live for very long.
Plus, I would set up some place in the tank for the smaller female to escape to, if the male becomes too aggressive. A terracotta pipe or something with rocks placed around the entrance will work good to provide an opening just big enough for her to swim into, if she needs a safe place to escape from the male.
