So after many changes, it is finally set up, cycled, and fished up too. The goal is an overstocked, Malawi, all male tank (still working on making sure it is all male.)
It's a 60 gallon
Substrate: crushed coral
Filtration: 305 Fluval, 350 Magum, and Penguin Biowheel 200
Added the Magnum for water polishing (would appreciate if anyone knows how
long and how often to use it for this????)
Decor: Various cavy rocks covering bottom back, with free space over entire front portion
Fake plants over back glass (Tried real plants a few years back and learned my lesson)
Added the plants when I noticed a couple of the shy fish hanging at the top to avoid
others. It has had an amazing effect of calming all the fish so that now they simply
hang out, including the shy ones. (Has anyone else done this and had a similar
effect?)
The Fish: (Overstocked!)
1 Labidochromis Hongi (that's him in my avatar)
1 Labidochromis Caeruleus (Yellow Lab)
1 Labidochromis Perlmutt
1 Metriaclima Callainos (Cobalt Zebra)
2 Metriaclima Estherae (OB Zebra)
Working on making sure they are both male
2 Metriclima Lombardi (Kenyi)
One of these is definitely female and I am looking for a good home for her
2 Pseudotropheus Acei
Started with one who was shy and when I got the second he was much happier. They
hang out together a lot
1 OB Peacock
Totally hangs out with the Mbuna and acts like one
1 Aulonacar Baenchi (a 'pseudo' sunchine peacock)
Doing really well, but I am watching him to make sure he is OK with the rest
4 Synodontis Lucipinnis
The fish range from 1 3/4 inches to 3 inches with the exception of the catfish, which are 3/4 to 1 inch in size right now.
They are doing great so far. I am really watching them closely to make sure it does not change (especially the peacock and the kenyi.) I do expect to have to get rid of some; although, I am hoping to avoid casualties and so far have had none.
I simply love all the colors and diversity in it. And, the fish have some of the best personalities I have had in Mbuna, so friendly and curious.
Just wanted to share my excitement!
