I'm setting up a 75g for a Black Nasty. This will be a single fish tank.

75g
Fluval 404
Probably do small pebble substrate, lots of it with it sloped high on 1 side.
Probably will only do 1 rock to serve as a current break.
200W heater

A few questions, will the 404 be sufficient filtering for a single fish 75g? Will 1 rock be sufficient? Would fake plants provide anything positive to the tank besides visually?

Any feedback is appreciated, thanks.

Personally, I think with a large fish like that, one rock should be sufficient. Keep as much space for the fish. On the other hand, you can always add and remove rocks and see how the fish reacts. If it is a smaller individual, I would probably put a few more in.

The fish will probably rearrange the substrate. Cichlids love just moving stuff around. As for plants, I think it's a personal preference.

I want it to be the way it's going to stay as soon as the fish enters the tank. These fish are very sensitive, especially as juveniles to bloat and stress. Simple things like moving decor around are notorious for killing them.

If the fish will not benefit from the fake plants I won't put them in.

Anyone else with any feedback? Should the 404 be sufficient?
