If you are primarily interested in color, then you'll be unhappy with Tangs. If you can get interested in their behavior, then we've got some options.
The base for a 29 gallon community really calls for shelldwellers: they are beautiful fish that don't require a huge amount of territory.
With a shell dweller, you could house a pair of small Julidochromis species, or Altolamprologus species.
Another option is to have a species tank of N. brichardi. Leleupi are colorful but rather pesky fish that don't play well with others. I don't recommend them with shellies, but you could keep a trio (1M:2F) in the 29 with a pair of either julidochromis or altolamprologus.
