Hello

I have had cichlid aquariums years ago. Its been awhile though. Setting up a new 65 gallon cichlid aquarium. Got a filteration question. Planning on using a Fluval canister filter. Must i use a undergravel filter with powerheads as well? What about ariation, what a common setup for airiating the water? I know these are basic questions but i want to be sure I am setting things up correctly.

Thanks for the help

Welcome to Cichlid-forum!

Under gravel filters are not used much anymore, no need to have one.

You also do not need a power head.

Your canister filter will disrupt the surface and provide sufficient oxygenation...air stones are not as efficient at oxygen exchange as thought earlier in the hobby.

Read the Cichlid-forum Library articles on tank set up for the type of cichlids you wish to keep as the answers could be different for South American, Central American, African Rift Lakes, etc.
