Hello, I have kept SA cichlids for the last 5 years, and I though I give african cichlids a try.

I have a 150g. 72x18x(30?)

The fish I like are:
Blue Johanni Cichlid
Brichardi Cichlid
Caudopunctatus Cichlid
Demasoni Cichlid
Electric Yellow Cichlid
Tretocephalus Cichlid
Yellow Peacock Cichlid

My goal is to have a very colorful and active tank. I know some of the above fish might not "work" together, but out of that selection what and how many would you suggest for me?

thanks

Avoid "Caudopunctatus Cichlid" far to gentle and sensitive a guy to go with those others.

Far easier to select your fav and we can build from there, maybe?

Thanks for the reply,

I actually passed by the lfs before I checked back for replies and bought some fish....(I couldn't resist)

I got:

2 Demasoni's
2 Yellow Labs
1 Haplochromis ahli
1 maylandi

how would you build up from this?

thanks

Well those are Malawi, so you probably want to post there. Malawi are harem breeders and need to be kept in larger groups. So I would add females 4 labs and 3 ahli [which are probably S. Fryeri]. Demasoni need to be in a VERY large group to spread aggression...I'd do 20 in a 72" tank. And I'd return the Maylandi since they are timid and probably won't thrive with the other fish you have chosen.
