Hi there,
I recently bought these 4-5 cm sized Mbunas from a pet store. The tank was labeled as Maylandia Zebra blue.
Now I'd love to understand what they really are:

I suppose they are Metriaclima estherae blue Minos reef but the lightest Mbuna could appear like Metriaclima callainos (blue cobalt zebra).

Any help would be appreciated.

The problem with the vague name is that they may be a mix between Estherae and Callainos. They do have some Estherae traits, and they all are not pure Callainos.

Were they from a group of fish in a tank in the store? Were they all blue? Were they blue to greyish? No orange fish? If they are pure Estherae, that would mean they separated the males and sold them together, if they would do that. Or they are just hybrids.

They were all together in a tank with no oranges in it and from what I know they didn't separate males from females.
I hope they are not hybrids.
