So I need some advice.
Long story short, I've had my all male Hap/Peacock tank running with the same stock for a good 6+ months. Everything had been going fine. At the time of this writing, I have 2 fish in my tank from my LFS, everything else was purchased online. Both of these fish are going back to the LFS.
One day recently, my 5+ inch Borlyi male (slightly colored but not fully colored, long flowing pointy fins, very pretty fish) decided he was a female. (S)he was most likely hormoned, which is the reason my other 2 LFS fish are going back. I can't say with 100% certainty that either is a male. For several days, (s)he appeared to be getting really fat. I didn't understand what was going on. I've had very little aggression in my tank the last 6 months, only needing to hospital 1 or 2 fish.
I came home from work one day and was in shock - (s)he decided to have a long female tube hanging out of her body with eggs falling out of it. I was so dumbfounded I didn't even know what to do. It caused complete and utter chaos in my tank. My Dimidiochroms compressiceps, Viktor, died. My Chilotilapia rhoadesi, Brody, lost his right eye. I was devastated.
I've got Brody in a hospital tank right now. He has been there for probably 3 weeks. By all accounts he is 100% healthy and perfect, except the eye thing. He is showing good color and greets me at the glass.
Have any of you kept a 1 eyed fish before? I'm worried to put him back into the main tank. He, along with my Viktor, were both my 1/2 in pecking order prior to the ordeal. I'm worried he will face aggression, but be a huge disadvantage and not do well.
I don't want to get rid of him, so I'm thinking if the big tank doesn't work for him, I may get a 55 gallon or so and grab him some lady Chilotilapias and just let him be king of his own tank. But I really want him in my main tank (125).
