I just took possesion of a used 55 gal aquarium...FOR FREE! I brought it home & cleaned it up. I filled it about up about 3/4 full to test for any leaks. I didn't see any. The only thing I see that is wrong with the tank is that the black trim that runs around the top of the tank & crosses in the middle, is cracked in several places. The cross bar is completely broken in half. I noticed when filling, that the tank started to bow in the middle because of this. My question is... is there a way to replace this piece? Should I just glue it back together? If you can suggest any spots on the web that could help me out I would appreciate it. I just don't want to get it all set up & awake to a house full of fish & water.
thanks paulbearer for that link. I didn't know you could just buy the frame. Often on CL you see tanks listed that are for reptiles only because the center brace is broken. A $20 fix is nice.
carracr whether you buy the frame or use another method, I would definitely get it braced and not put water in until you do so. Its amazing how much a tank depends on that little piece of plastic
