I have about a 4" female sal, who is now living in a 40breeder, no other fish except a Rhino pleco, please excuse the pics, she was living with a baby albino Red eared slider. I'm intrested in providing her with a male, but some what concerned about pairing behavior in sals. Can someone tell me how it can be done?

I know how everyone loves pics, so here they are, I've seen alot of sals with not so much color, and she was pretty dull. I've been feeding NLS, feeder guppies, various frozen, mysis, brine, squid, cyclopeeze, and she eats alot of the turtle food lol,

are u sure thats a female? does it have a black blotch in the dorsal fin? i ask cuz most females dont have much for the pearly spotting on their side, and not much for extensions on the dorsal. anyway, about the pairing, *** never read about pairing sals before, but i know with flowerhorns, u put a divider in ther so they can see eachother but not reach eachother. eventually they will show interset in eachother, not sure exactly what they do to pair, but i know the divider is a proven method of pairing fish.

yep she's 100% female, she has a very very heavy blotch in the middle of her dorsal fin... had it since she was about 2" when i got her. You can barely see it in PIC 5, its there, its kinda hard to get a shot, as she's somewhat skittish, and her fin is down.

Really the only thing to be done is to find a Male either 3 in or larger. Around her size! A 2 in Male probably wont work! I have a pair in my 55 gal and they have freeswimming fry currently! This is their first time spawn and already have about 2-300 fry or there abouts! They are the only ones in there and are doing a spot on job defending them! Also this my first time spawning these guys! I would say as far as I can tell is they are just a normal cichlid as far as spawning aggression! Like probably like Convicts and Texas's are when spawning! Although I have heard of them jumping out to get the owner when it came to feeding time but mine haven't done that yet! The Male is roughly about 3 in and the Female is about 2 1/2 in!

I'm having a bit of a hard time finding a larger male, that actually looks decent, do you know of places that have larger males availbible? or even a stud service lol She is nearing 5"and is thick, she is pretty aggressive, actively defending her territory, and I'm concerned about the health of the male in her territory
