[Low Budget]

Hey all just wanted to show you my 180 setup. After much work, research and lots of help from the forums I have water in my tank (Woo Hoo)!

I bought an all glass 180 used from craigslist. It already had 1â€Â

Once your bacteria colony is established, it will self-regulate according to the amount of ammonia in the tank. So if you get enough fish to cause the same daily ammonia output as you were putting in the tank while cycling, it'll remain steady. If you get more, you'll see a "mini-cycle" as things catch up - shouldn't harm the fish at all. If you get fewer, the colony will shrink accordingly. You can do any of those 3 things without any huge risks involved.

Looks good, I like the under cabinet lighting as well, neat idea :thumb: What make is that internal trickle filter? I wouldn't mind something similar to that myself.

Thanks! The lights are LED strips I picked up from Home Depot. What filter are you referring to?

It's Texas Holy Rock. You can get it at fish stores or have it shipped but it usually ends up being around 4$ a puund. I lucked out and found a guy on Craigslist that brought 1000# back from Texas.

I tried but no luck here in MI. You might be able to find lace rock but it is more of a gray color

first of all, sweet freaking setup. i am on the lookout for a 180 right now as well.

the only comment i have, is that you said you are going to stock with peacocks. i would reduce the amount of rock in there for a peacock setup. the ones i have really like swimming in the open water. you might have that anyway with the depth on the tank, but just a comment. my mbunas would love all that rock!

Hey Low...man, props for the sweet setup! Envy peeps that can put such a beautiful setup together like yours.

I am new to keeping cichlids and am also doing a fishless cycle now myself, but from what I have read...you have the prime rock structure for keeping mbuna's. ****, I want that tank..ha! ha!

Thanks guys! The whole front 1/2 of the tank is rock free so they should have plenty of room.

Just ordered a 57 led moon light should be here this week. I am going to order 35+ fish on Wed going for a mix of Haps and Peacocks. I will update with photos of the progress soon
