In an all Male Malwai tank can you put different types of peacocks from the Jacobfreibergi group in the same aquarium? If so, will only the dominate peacock show color? I was considering getting a Jacobfreibergi Otter Point, a Walteri, and a Lemon Jake. I know colors are different, but I did not want to create WW3 in the tank or have only one with color. Does anyone else have this mix?

I am currently working on a stock list for a 150 gallon tank. I have mostly other Hap on my list and was considering adding a A. Gertude, A. Yellow Collar and one from the Stuartgranti group. The groups are based on the article in the Peacock Corner on mixing peacocks. Thanks.

I wouldn't mix any. I mixed a Swallowtail Jake and Eureka male in a 7ft tank once and the one mortally wounded the other, and the reason I moved those two in the 7ft tank is because my Hongi Island jake in my other tank beat the **** out of both of them...

They seem to be very aggressive to other males so I would not mix any others.

I can't say for sure, but A. sp. Walteri or A. sp. Lwanda may work with a Jake as if I'm not mistaken they are separate species....

I think you will be fine adding only 1 Jacob. Preferably a Lemon Jake. I have kept 1 of these guys in a peacock tank and he never made a fuss. Buy him smaller then the rest (sub-adult) for a better chance.

A common mis-conseption is that only 1 peacock will fully colour up in a peacock tank. This is not true. In a species only tank it is the case, but in a tank full of different species of peacocks they will all colour up well. The only time they will lose colour is when they are picked on relentlessly or sick.

There will be dominant fish obviously but he won't be the only 1 to show his colours

I have both a yellow jake and a eureka red in my male tank. My yellow jake is fabulous looking, one of the largest in the tank and never bothers anyone. My eureka red is not too bad either, in terms of aggression, but definitely does more chasing. If I had to choose only one, it's the yellow jake. I'd prefer a ruby red over the Eureka Red and some day he may wear out his welcome and go back to the LFS for a ruby red . . .

Hollyfish2000 OR Other members feedback please.

Hollyfish, please don't make me 2nd guess the Eureka's for the Empress, girl I just got them!

As you are familiar with both Eureka & Empress do you find the Empress colours up nicer than the Eureka?

The Eureka as you said likes to chase (true) - which is more aggressive?

Why do you prefer the Empress? Somebody please defend the Eureka's :p

Could a couple members give me an idea of both their overall behaviour. Which is easier to breed, etc..

Thank you!

I had a Red Empress in my peacock/hap tank. **** i miss that guy.... It still hurts to think i traded him :(
I love the colour of the males and they bred for me very well. Around breeding time they become agressive, very territorial and display some amazing colours. Other then the agression around breeding time they are generally harmless, well mine was but as soon another fish tried gaining dominance he would easily put it back in it's place.
**** i miss that guy, i really hope someone is taking really good care of him somewhere :?

I have a Red Empress in my male peacock/hap tank and he couldn't be a more wonderful fish. Gorgeous looking and while the "king" of the tank, he is a benign dictator and never really hassles anyone, even tho they sometimes have a rep for being nasty. So I love my Red Empress!

He and my Eureka Red peacock has no issues. The Eureka Red, however, just killed a new ruby red I introduced in the tank this weekend. So he's on my $%^& list and I'm very upset about it. It's my first murder. I won't put another ruby red in this tank unless is re-home the Eureka Red.

The Red Empress and the Eureka Red, while both blue and red in coloration, really don't look that similar. My Empress is more maroon while the ER is more orange.

Hope that little tale of woe helps!
