I have two melanochromis auratus. One female and one male. I introduced the male about a week and a half ago and she has been rather aggressive towards him until recently. Lately I have noticed that my female doesn't eat when I feed them and she's been staying to the inside of an faux alligator skull that we have inside the aquarium. Her lower jaw has seemed to develope a gizzard and as I was watching her today some milky substance came floating out of her mouth while she was hiding then she looked to be chewing on something and flared[/img] out. This will be the first time any of my cichlids will have had babies o_O

I've never heard of seeing milky substances but otherwise I would say that your fish is holding eggs. Since I presume it is her first time, she may be having some new-mother troubles and some of the eggs are getting crushed. It is not uncommon for a first time spawn to fail, but they usually do better the second time.

Good luck :D
