What did the lfs label it as?

I see the traits of a Trimac with the red eyes and red around the gill plate with the head shape of some sort of amph species. I could be totally wrong. Definitely could be some sort central american hybrid.

 

Sold as a Mesohero's oranatum. CF figured out they are a gephyrus.
These are mature ones, you can see the head bump.
Its confusing me because the black markings do not go away.
I can see a bit of the iridescent and the tail dot looks like its in the right location and pattern.
It does not have the iridescent on the caudal fins. It does not have the torpedo shape.
It does seem to have an Amphilophus shape

 

Yea maybe possible Trimac/Midas hybrid or low grade flowerhorn.

As mentioned, I'm going off the red gill plate and eyes and that amph shaped head.

 

Any other opinions. Trimac is the closest I see, with the Red Belly.
This is not good. I thought i was ordering an Oranutus. Then it ended up Gephyrus.

This Gephyrus is similar. I wish the striping would disappear, so i could get a better idea.

Yea definitely CA amph/Trimac/flowerhorn hybrid...

I would say amph lyonsi but they are a brighter yellow and don't have the speckling on the body.

 

One of the Amphilophine hybrids is also what I suspected.
Just for reference, here is a young (but pure bred) lyonsi from back in the COA days.

 

Was thinking that also as they look like trimacs but instead of spots, they that blotched black that runs parallel to the lateral line. Very beautiful fish I will say.

 

@dennispeleg1982. I went through most of the Amphilophus group. I would say Amphilophus lyonsi is the closets match.

 

I message the Online store I purchased them. Told them that I ordered Mesoheros Ornatus and that they had sent gephyrus. Then told them i was sent I guess some Amphilophus lyonsi hybrid.

I have been trying to get some Herotilapia multispinosa . I asked them if they could get some in for me. Many places are reluctant to bring them in. They say they do not sell. I wished to try them with my maculipinnis.

 

Doesn´t sound like an online store i´d ever order from again.

 

I have been reading on the Amphilophus lyonsi, quite rare.
Good, half the attitude of a Trimac.
He definetly has the right shape and from what i can see of the coloring it looks like a lyonis
