Master Kit Expiration of tests

1745 Views 4 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  cichlidaholic
I just checked my nitrates using my AP Master Test Kit. Nitrates were 10 ppm on the fish tank in question and I'm in the middle of my water change schedule (i.e. I'm on the 3rd day of a 7 day schedule). The test has 2005 on the bottle. Is it too old and how long does each reagent kit last?

I would replace it. I don't trust test kits that have been opened for longer than 6 months.

Thanks.
According to API, the kits are ok for 3 years from lot number date (if unopenned) and good for 1 year from date of opening (but if you open it after 2.5 years, its still on good for the last six months.

I pretty much get a new kit every six months a well, unless I manage to find one that has only been on the shelf six month or less from bottling date (so far only happened once in several years).
