I just tested my tap water with an API test kits. I used both the ph and high ph test and it looks my ph is somewhere between 7.4 and 7.6. Based on these number, I don't think I can keep any cichlids from Lake Malawi? Do you all have any ideas on how I can raise my ph to at least 8.0 to 8.2?

First let your sample sit on the counter for 24 hours after it comes out of the tap and then test again. pH=7.6 would be OK...use only the high pH test.

Then test your GH and KH. GH keeps your pH stable, so depending on the result, you might just put crushed coral in your filter as some of the media, or you might add a little baking soda.

There is an article in the Cichlid-forum Library in Water Chemistry about a DIY mix based on baking soda with instructions. I usually don't add the other items...just the baking soda.
