I'm thinking about upsizing my 55gal tank to a 120gal but have no idea what I need. On my 55 I have two HOB filters, a Penguin 350 and a Whisper (big one, not sure of the number, it's old). I also have two Penguin 660s for UGF.
What kinda filtration, heating, etc will I need for the 120gal. I'm most likely use the 660's for UGF and would like to keep the HOBs but possible add a cannister (not sure about this).
I have about 15 adult and 5 juvi mbuna in the 55 now that are happy. I'm assuming I can double those numbers in the 120.
Thanks for the help in advance....Brian

I'm not a fan of the UGF. It's not from experience but word of mouth that I don't care for them. I have a standard 55g. and use 2 HOB filters. Not even sure what they are. Each takes 2 cartridges and one has 2 bio wheels. I also use some polyester fiber fill in them.

I'm wanting bad to upgrade to a 120g. too (I think 120 is what I want....60"x18"x something not to high). I'd like to keep the 2 HOBs for it plus add a canister...just not sure which one.

I guess it would depend alot on what fish you want to add if you can double your numbers or not. I'd for sure tank the acei out of the 36g. and put it into the 120g. or at least the 55g. and get a few more of those too. They like to be in groups. I have 3 (1male 2females I think) but want to get a couple more when I get the bigger tank (if I don't have fry from them by then).

I'm not sure what to advise about a heater but it should say on the box what size tank they work in.

Not sure of the exact tank dimensions...but it 72"long x 24 wide? x 24 tall?. The width and height are a guess.

I'm moving the lone acei in the 36gal to the 55gal as soon as she gets big enough.

Well, I have a 125 and it is 72" x 18". I would not add any species to the list in your signature (assume the Saulosi are staying in the 36"). But I would add individuals to each species for 5 or 6 of each with 1m:4f for the zebras, rusties and cobalts. I would not distribute fry from this tank.

I would add a canister, I like my Rena Filstar XP3 or larger. I also have 3 Stealth heaters.
