Hey guys just had a question about a light fixture. I have a 26gal bowfront with the plastic hood, I plan on switching to the glass hood so I can place a T5Ho fixture on the tank for the plants. Unfortunately it seems like these fixtures require either hanging the light or being placed onto the tank with no lid. I need a lid due to the fish inside and do not want to hang the light. Is it safe to remove the plastic cover from the light and place the fixture right on top of the glass top or will it overheat? I plan on using a 24inch Zoomed double lamp T5HO fixture 48watts total. I was told the 2 foot lights do not get nearly as hot as the 4 foot fixture. Also anyone use these fixtures and if so how do you like them?

My fixtures are all the full length of the tank and rest directly on the glass covers. I don't remove the plastic from the fixture. They don't overheat, but I made sure I bought fixtures with fans.
