I want to remodel my tank.

Right now its on the darker side but I want to get my old PC's out from when I did my mini reef and try to get that nice crisp look back in my tank. I am going with the more white look on my substrate and rocks until I get some nicer colored algae growing so is high power PC's good for Comps? I miss the sparkling shimmer and since we started having kids I couldn't keep up with the cost of maintenance on a saltwater tank. :(

I have foai & cyps and melogenys

I use reg florescent lighting on the fishroom tanks, and use 50/50 on my show tank

I leave the lights on 14+ hrs a day to get and keep the algae going. I have added plants - water onion does great in the high ph water - which also keep the algae off the glass.

Hi powered lights seem to bug the species I keep - but what are you keeping - it makes a big difference to their happiness, which is likely to affect yours..... :dancing: :fish:

In my opinion, a darker lighting looks much better than say a pc light. And if your fish doesn't seem to be bother by it, go for it.
It all depends, I have a mix of both. I have some with moderate standard lighting and some with a dim light centerd in one spot in the middle but I want to go with a nice clear crisp look with this one.

Most of my more dim tanks have duller more earthy toned substartes and backgrounds. I just feel that with the look of the substrate and background plus decor I have in mind for this one a 6k and actinic set up would be nice. Maybe even just 6k in both.

I'm using t5 tubes on my 72 gal. I run 2 actinic tubes early morning and evening and a 10k tube (with the actinics off) during the day. I run blue led moonlights late at night. This gives some different "looks" to the aquarium. The moonlights allows you to view nocturnal species. The 10k lights are very crisp white.

I have power compact's (10,000k and actinic) on my 210 g. The gold head comp doesn't seem to be bothered by it and he looks good. I use T5's on my 120's with colourmax and 10,000k lamps to bring out the red in my tropheus.
