Comments:
Like all Lethrinops species, L. sp. "Nyassae" hunts by shoveling and filtering the substrate for food particles. Characteristic of this species is the black pigment band formed in the rear part of the dorsal fin. Males have many large egg spots on the anal fin. Males are territorial, at the center of which is a small depression that serves as a spawning site. Females tend to cluster together in groups. This is not an assertive cichlid and can easily be oppressed by more active or dominant tank mates. Careful selection of tank mates is advised.
