Any fish can be tattooed. The more common species used are tetras, mollies and Blood Parrots. Other cichlids include Midas' and just about any light coloured, wide bodied fish.

It's a more common practice for fish imported from Asia and thankfully, hasn't really grown in popularity over here.

Dragon's Blood (Strawberry, Poseidon) Peacocks aren't tattooed for their colour if that's what you're asking, so banning them as a whole based on their name would be a bit alarmist. Banning tattooed fish as a whole is a good practice IMO.

how do they do it?
You know I've never bothered to investigate enough to find out. I just assume they take the fish out of the water and quite literally use a tattoo tool and put the colour on them.

I'm not even sure how permanent it is. I've never actually seen any in person, plenty of dyed fish (which isn't much better when you see how that's done) but never any tattooed ones.
