I have a 2 metre tank that I'm planning a bit further down the line for (currently has some of my wife's fish in which I can't keep with tangs) and I was planning on going down the mbuna route as I'm a big fan of yellow labs. However before I head off down the mbuna route I wanted to look into the possibility of keeping l.leleupi and labs together (maybe with some rainbows to add a bit of red) and wondered if people kept them together successfully? It seems that the leleupi can stand up for themselves judging by posts on this forum.

Also how many lelupi should I keep if I do go down this route? Is it best to go for something like 3 females to 1 male like mbuna?

Could I keep a pair of julidochromis with labs, leleupi and rainbows?

I was thinking 10 or so labs, 6 leleupi, 12 or so rainbows, perhaps a pair of juli's and a couple of bristlenoses.

Any advice appreciated

Cheers

2meters=about 6 feet?
120cm=4f
30cm= 1foot.

i have a female leleupi with a bunch of labs in my tank. tank is way to small though.
they are getting along fine. just fighting over dominance. leleupi vs a 4inch male.
the male won.
cant help you with rainbows though

Is it possible to keep a few leleupi together rather than one or a pair as my tank is 600 litres? Would all females work or all males or have 10 or something? Judging by the reponses I've seen so far this fish has a personality close to pure evil...it even sounds worse than auratus....but some websites describe it as quite peaceful so I'm confused.

I would never describe L.leleupi as peaceful (esp with each other as they become adult) but it is possible to keep more than one pair in a tank.
I have had two pairs going in a 60"x18"x18". But it sure is an uneasy peace. Not sure if you can crowd out their instinct to pair and remove opposition from their breeding area (any set of connected caves) though.
Mine bred at opposite ends of the tank! (Never did find the bodies of the two that went missing, murder in the caves I suspect)
