I recently set up my first Tanganyika tank and am wondering what to do about waste collecting around, between, and under shells and rocks in the tank. I have read that messing with the decor can upset bonding pairs. What do you recommend?

The siphon always worked for me...just can't do it when there are fry.

The rocks are on the bottom...substrate on top so they can't get debris underneath. The shellies usually keep the shells clean. Snails work well if you have algae, but the easiest thing is to eliminate waste and alge so as not to have to deal with it in the first place.

Good circulation will keep most waste up in the water column so the filters can sweep it out of the tank as well. What is your GPH?

Not sure of total GPH. Running an Eheim Pro 4+ 600 & an AC 110. Pretty sure I'm covered. Doesn't seem to be enough current to keep junk moving to the filter intakes though. 75 gallon w/ PFS & Cichlid Stones.

you could try a spray bar - or simply experiment with how the filter outlet is pointed.
