I just made my first online order and I can't wait to get my fish in. I used Blue Grass and Eddie, the owner, was such a great guy. Talked to him for a few mins and next week I'll have 18 Dems and 18 Ps. Flavus!!! I've never seen much on the Flavus, does anyone here have any, he said they should mix well with the Dems, and they shouldn't cross breed, even tho they're both Pseudotropheus. Well any tips with them or the Dems please add a comment.
P.s. They're going in a 90 gallon tank, tons of stacked rocks, and 2 AC 110's. Thanks, and when I get a new camera I'll put some pics up! :fish:

Lol, I just read my post. Sorry that the grammer is HORRIBLE! Anyway here were the questions:
-Anyone have any Ps. Flavus?
-I'd feel confident giving/ selling the fry should I have any, would I be safe even tho they both Pseudotropheus?
-Any other tips you guys have?

yeah im 99% sure they wont cross breed....

actually id love to see pics AND know how they react to eachother.

sure they can crossbreed, like all Mbuna. Will they, i dunno.

As for the mix, it might be okay. A lot of dark barred fish though

I doubt there would be any cross breeding but the risk is always there. The good thing is, from a young age you will be able to recognise hybrids pretty easily.
I think that the fishes colour will compliment each other well.
I'm not sure if i would have bought 18 Flavus though, i would have stopped short of 10. I don't think many males will colour up to full potential but i may be wrong, but atleast you have enough of them so you can weed out any or cut back if need be.
Would love to see pics of your tank when they finally arrive, sound like a really interesting mix and i'm a big fan of the Flavus :thumb:

I absolutely love the looks of P. flavus! They were on my original "want" list. I haven't been able to find them locally and haven't found your courage to order them online yet. I think they might do well with my stocklist.... wonder if my male L. sp. Mbamba would mind another barred species in the tank

Well I just wanted to post a follow up post. My experience with mail-order fish, and Blue Grass Cichlids, was ok at best. I’ll post some pics in a week after everyone settles in and colors up… If anyone would like to comment on what I should have expected with mail order fish please chime in. My Dems were nipped up pretty bad and 3 of the 18 had undesirable bars. They also varied in size quite a bit, maybe 1 inch to 2.5 inches. As far as the Ps. Flavus they were much larger than the Demasoni, but their fins were in good shape. Is this normal ‘quality’? I’m holding off on a review in the appropriate section for month or so. :? :?
