What's the probability of survival for a 2" cichlid after it has jumped a tank? Early this morning (while getting ready for work), my firemouth jumped out of the 55g and was flopping around on the carpet. I picked him up almost immediately after it happened but was a bit rough since he just didn't seem to want to go back to the tank. I'm kind of scared that I will go back home and find the fish on the floor again or dead. Ugh!

If he wasn't out of the water long, he'll probably be fine. (I've dropped fry in the floor before and it's been several minutes before I even noticed, and I haven't killed one yet!)

Your main problem may be in finding out what caused him to jump to start with...Is there alot of aggression in the tank, or did he just think the grass was greener on the other side?

The fish ended up surviving. Nothing has happened since that incident. I'm thinking that something startled it and it jumped.

I just lost one of my favourite fish a couple of weeks ago to a jump, and I'm still sick over it.

I had a jumper a few weeks ago. I now covered ever inch of the tank's top. I don't loose sleep any more.
