How big are your fish. I have 5 JDs in a 55gal right now, 2-3in and 3-2in. Im trying to get a pair some of the smaller ones chase eachother and go tail to face but not very often. Any advice would be helpful.

Hi Jegrego1, that fish on the right in your pic looks like a Texas Cichlids. But to your point I have seen JD's pair up at that size.

that fish to the right is not a texas its a JD

and it took mine nearly 9-10 months for the male..

the female was trying to pair after just 7 months....

in answer to how big mine are the female is 6inches

and my male is only about 4.5

my female has gave him **** too

and i have a question about growth to anyone who will answer.... does having dempseys in a 55 mean they wont grow to their 10 inch size?? bc if so im going to buy a 75 gallon for them...

not sure but my female is at 7" and my male is at about 9 atm, i've had them for about a year and 8 months, give or take.

Edit* forgot to add this is in a 90.

how big were they when you got them bc mine were like the size of a penny lol

my males nearly 10 months probly close to 5 inches

female is like gotta be a year and shes over six inches

I would go for an even bigger footprint. The 55 would fine for a pair but It can stunt growth. A 75 is bigger but if you want large Jds go for a 6' footprint.

Once they get to about 8 inches their growth really starts to slow down so the 55 gallon should be fine for a while.
