Hello Everyone im setting up another tank and im looking for an easy way to clean my crushed coral substrate to get all the sand and milkyness out of it. Is there any techniques that you guys may use to clean your gravel during the initial startup? Thanks!

*** found no way to get every little bit out, i just dump it in a 5 gallon bucket and stick in a garden hose, to the bottom and stir occasionally. While thats going on, i set up my hot magnum filter with the pleated cartridge in it, then prior to putting it on the tank i load the cartridge with DE powder, and run that in a bucket until all i get is clear water.

Essentially making a home made DE filter which will take the tiniest particles out of your tank water.

Add some to a bucket, run a hose into it while stirring it up. Pour off the water and whatever floats to the top, repeat a few times or until the water runs as clear as you want it to. I wouldn't make it any harder than that.

I just dumped mine into the "new" tank and then let my filter clear it up. I did add some Seachem Clarity to get rid of the last bit - never had a problem since.
