Living in Florida I have to prepare for hurricane power outage. I have been lucky so far; only had tanks for the past 1 and 1/2 years. I have one tank at home 100 gallon 18x20x60. I bought a battery operated backup that automaticall turns on when the power goes out; cost about $20.00. It will operate one airstone. I am running a sump with a mag 12 pump on this tank. Any suggestions? Would one airstone be acceptabe for a day or so or should i get several of these. Any other ideas would be appreciated; computer backup, inverter connected to a car battery, etc.

I then have two tanks at my office a 46 gallon bow front and a 180 gallon. So you can see i need to get ready.

thanks for your help.

Here's a link to a 2 page article on how to make your own rechargeable power supply, http://freshaquarium.about.com/od/doity ... mpower.htm. I believe the individual who wrote it used it to power tanks during the aftermath of Katrina. Living in coastal NC, I've been wanting to put something like this together for a while. Like you said, I've been luck thus far.
I just read the article. Thanks a bunch. This sounds like what i was looking for. I actually have two inverters at my business not currently being used.
