well i have sand in 2 tanks looks sweet but cleaning what you got to do is kind of hover across with the syphen if that how you spell it thats how i clean it and as for clouding the water i dont know how to make it not cloud besides putting it in a bucket and put water in there and moving it aroud pore out the cloudy water and put it in there it might help i just let mine cloud it settled but turn the filter off while your pouring it becase it can mess the propeller up if to much gets in there and take care of your shellies there awsome fish i got a 30 stocked with them the julie regeini is my favorite

I think the tank will be cloudy for a few hours no matter how long you rinse the sand.

Also, when adding water back into the tank, put a dinner plate back down on top of your sand and pour your water on that. Reduces the risk of cloudiness.
