Put a mama in a plastic breeding box last night - mostly because she was not eating and keeping her mouth obviously shut

Her lower jaw is not hanging down much though - maybe it's because she doesn't have many in there or they are small?

She just started a few days ago - but just now I read someone say that they often hold unfertilized eggs for a week then just spit them out?

I had a socolofi that was holding for about a week a while back - then one day I dropped some food in and she couldn't resist opening her mouth and the contents fell out - she looked shocked and they were immediately scooped up by another fish.

I wonder if these fish are holding fertilized eggs - how can you tell? I wonder if I chased this fish all over the tank for no reason?

Usually I wait a week and if she is still holding they are probably fertilized. :thumb: It's one reason not to remove the mother (unless she is being harassed) until at least a week has passed. I wait until day 18.
