Can anyone help identify this still very young fish sold to me as a Texas Cichlid?
I presume its a hybrid of some sort but I've been getting a lot of people insisting its a Carpintis. I have others saying Texas.

Time will tell. And this young'n is just too small for me to give you a positive ID. Plus, there is some controversy regarding Hericthys. Specifically, the so-called 'Red Texas' breeding project projects, which have really caused some problems for the Hericthys carpintis, Pearlscale Cichlid in the hobby.
This video will help to explain some of what you're dealing with in regards to your new CA Cichlid.

Apologies for the informal nature of Andy Woods videos.
But, the man has definitely done it and lived it with New World Cichlids. I myself have personally only kept WC Hericthys cyanoguttatus, Texas Cichlids (Collected myself from northern Mexico). So yes, while I do suspect your 'Texas' is a Hericthys carpintis, I'm just not sure what sort of New World, CA Cichlid you have actually wound up with.
