Trying to figure out if this is perhaps a drab yet uncolored male or is this a female. I am new to cichlids but am enjoying the journey already. And yes the goofy coral decor will be going soon and a nice stack of flat rocks will be replacing it...lol

Probably female, it depends on the situation, but doesn't seem too small and no sign of any maleness so far. Depends if with larger males. If near 3" is no longer juvenile.

Unknown Aulonocara and may not be pure, so pretty much impossible exactly ID if female.

That's kind of what I figured. It's still no quite 3" but I was leaning towards female as well. Guess I will know when the males get frisky enough...lol.

Can't quite tell in the image, but are there any egg spots and is the anal fin pointy or rounded? Looks like a lot of my fish.

Egg spots may not help determine gender, and it is pointy or rounded on the dorsal fin that may also help.

Noki is pretty good at this!
