I have a 55 gallon african cichlid tank, no issues, very healthy looking fish. A couple of months ago I noticed one or two small snail-looking creatures. I now have hundreds all over the tank and I freaking out. Any advice how to get rid of them. Thanks, Doug

grab as many as you can with your hands/a net and dump in some clown loaches (assuming your cichlids are OK with them. My mbuna were.) Loaches love eating snails. They multiply so quickly that it might still be a losing battle though.

You can remove alot of them by hand. Once you get it cleared out pretty good, place a piece of cucumber in the tank overnight. Anchor it to a rock or something to hold it down. You should be able to remove alot of the snail with a net on the cucumber the next morning. You may have to do this several times.

It's like fighting a losing battle if your fish don't help out by eating them!

Don't use any of the LFS snail removal products...I've never seen them do anything other than cause problems in a tank.

ALTHOUGH I HAVE NEVER HAD A SNAIL PROBLEM IN MY CICHLID TANK , CAUSE THEY EAT THEM EVERY TIME THEY SEE ONE!

BUT...........

WHAT I HAVE SEEN ALOT OF PEOPLE DO, AS WELL AS PET STORES, IS USE ONE OF THOSE 7 DAY FEEDING DISKS, THEY COME IN VARIOUS SHAPES SUCH AS SEASHELLS. PLACE ONE OF THOSE DOWN & EVERY LAST SNAIL WILL FLOCK TO THOSE.
GOOD LUCK.
